“We don’t make excuses, we create solutions.”

Principal and Title IX Coordinator, John O'Brian

Dear Stakeholders,

Hello and welcome to Paterson Elementary School. I know this sounds like a typical cliché, but I am sincere when I articulate how personally honored I am to serve the Paterson community, students, faculty and staff as their Principal. Paterson Elementary is a part of the School District of Clay County. It is located on Fleming Island, Florida. One of twenty-seven elementary schools, Paterson Elementary offers a full academic program to approximately 1, 060 students.

Paterson Elementary is considered a high performing academic school. Paterson students consistently perform above the District and State level on state assessments. Our teachers are continuously enhancing their skills and knowledge to foster student learning ensuring future college and career preparation. Our extracurricular academic programs include: Gifted studies, National Elementary Honor Society, Music, Technology, Robotics, Art, Physical Education, Media Exploration, and Theater. In addition to Physical Education, we have track and lacrosse after school programs.

One of the truly unique characteristics of Paterson Elementary is the family and community involvement. The integration of the families, local community businesses, faith groups, and general community members are essential to any successful community school. Regardless if someone has a student and/or family member in the school, the school is often the focal point our community. We embrace that and foster those relationships to solidify the partnership of the school and community. Such activities would include: family nights, movies, carnivals, student performing arts programs, open House, orientation, business partner night, and many more opportunities for the community to participate and interact with the school.

As I articulated, I am very fortunate to serve my students, faculty, staff, parents and community that are a part of the Paterson family. Together, we all make a difference in the lives of one another and our students every day.

Cordially,

John O’Brian

Principal

Welcome parents and guardians,

Thank you for your interest in R.M. Paterson Elementary, Home of the Manatees! We are located in the heart of Fleming Island. We are a K-6 school and serve close to 1,200 students. We are currently the largest elementary school in Clay County. A few things we pride ourselves on at Paterson Elementary is our consistent high academic performance, our positive culture and climate here on campus as well as our strong community and parent relationships. At Paterson we offer multiple resource classes and every student participates in one of these classes each day: Art, Music, PE, STEM, Technology, and Media. We also offer many clubs on campus such as Chorus, Run/Walk, Track Team, Lacrosse, Robotics, Purple Up (military club), Anchored for Life, Art Club and many more! We also have a very strong Parent Faculty Association where we encourage parents, grandparents and guardians to join and meet monthly to discuss upcoming events, needs, and happenings around the school. This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved!

I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the Manatee family for four years now serving as Assistant Principal. I was born and raised in Clay County and I can truly say Paterson Elementary is an extremely special place with a very positive learning environment for all students. We have an open door policy and always try to be available for any questions, concerns or just parents wanting to gain more information. We value and encourage parent and family involvement in their student’s education.

Paterson is built on the four Rs: Responsibility, Respect, Resilience and Results. We have a strong instructional and support staff who are highly qualified to meet the needs of our learners. Students here receive a high quality education filled with engagement, rigor, and academic ownership. Any school within Clay County is a wonderful place to be but Paterson Elementary is the best! Go Manatees!

Sincerely,

Courtney Schumacher, Assistant Principal

Assistant Principal, Lori Stokes

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Welcome to Paterson Elementary School! I am extremely honored to be a part of the PES administrative team and to work along such a dynamic staff, students and families. I am a proud product of Clay County District Schools, and served as a teacher in Clay County for 17 years. I am proud of our district and all the initiatives we have in place to serve our students. Paterson strives daily to provide the best educational opportunities for each of our students to be successful academically and socially. It is our goal to meet the individual needs of all of our students while setting high standards and expectations for everyone. At Paterson we work hard and encourage each other along the way!

Families and our community play a huge part in the success of PES. We pride ourselves on having an “open door” policy as we work collaboratively to reach our goals. All families are encouraged to volunteer and become a part of our phenomenal Parent-Faculty Association (PFA). This organization works diligently to serve our staff and students each day, and to provide additional resources that enhance our classrooms and campus. We are honored to have our families work with us each day.

I am blessed to be a part of such an amazing school, as we work to create an atmosphere of academic excellence. Thank you to all of our stakeholders for serving and supporting us as we prepare our learners for a successful future. #PositivielyPaterson

Sincerely,

Lori Stokes
